🏏 Weekend Review – T20s, Tons of Talent, and a Big Bounce Back!

It was a busy weekend across all formats for Balbriggan CC – with a tough start on Friday night, a packed Saturday for the Women’s 1s, and an emphatic Sunday response from the Men’s 1s and 3s!

πŸ”Ή Friday – Men’s 1st XI vs Malahide – T20 Competition

Balbriggan 117 all out | Malahide 118/4

It was a disappointing team batting effort on Friday night, with the game slipping away early in the first innings. However, it was great to see Farooq Nasr back in the side, top scoring with 30.

Matt Hollard was outstanding with the ball, returning 2/8 from 3 overs in a tight spell – but Malahide chased down the target comfortably.

πŸ”Ή Saturday – Women’s 1st XI Double Header vs Clontarf & Phoenix

Game 1 – vs Clontarf

Balbriggan 155/4 | Clontarf 156/5

A strong batting display saw Lara Maritz (48), Tess Maritz (46*), and Ciara Gibson (37) combine for a total of 155. In response, Clontarf chased it down with one over to spare.

With the ball, Lara picked up 3/12 from her 4 overs, and Nina Kerr grabbed 2/22 off 3.

Game 2 – vs Phoenix

Phoenix 108/7 | Balbriggan 109/2 (7 overs)

The fielding unit was electric – 4 run outs alongside wickets from Tess, Lara, and Tamsin Hope showed great team discipline.

Then came a stunning chase – Lara Maritz smashed 65* (6x4s, 5x6s) and Ella Marsh added 25 as the score was chased in just 7 overs. What a response from the ladies!

πŸ”Ή Sunday – Men’s 1st XI vs Malahide – Premier League

Balbriggan 242/7 | Malahide 140 all out

Back to winning ways on Sunday with a dominant all-round performance!

Connor Fletcher led the way with 58 (4x4s, 4x6s), supported by Dylan Lues (44) and Farooq Nasr (33). The final 5 overs saw 51 runs added – a momentum swing that proved vital.

With the ball, it was all about Dylan Lues (4/19) and Matt Hollard (3/29), who ran through Malahide’s middle order to seal the win.

πŸ”Ή Sunday – Men’s 3rd XI vs Lucan

Lucan 139 (35 overs) | Balbriggan 140/7

Lucan posted 139, reaching 64/3 after 13 overs – setting a solid platform. But a sharp fielding performance and disciplined bowling turned things around.

Ryan Keenan led the bowling effort with a superb 4-wicket haul, while Aadi Wankhade and Hamza Anjum each chipped in with 2 wickets to keep Lucan in check.

In response, Balbriggan were 80/4 after 15 overs, but a composed lower-order effort guided the team home. Rana and Druhan Knight were there at the end, steering the chase with calm heads and smart batting to secure a 3-wicket win.

A gutsy performance from the 3s who showed control and resilience in all departments!
