🏏 Weekend Review – Wins, Washouts, and a Dominant Women’s Display!

This weekend brought more success for Balbriggan Cricket Club across the board — from Lara Maritz’s match-winning performance to powerful displays from our 4th XI. While the 5s had a tough outing, the club continues to push forward with strong energy across all teams!

🔹 Women’s 1st XI vs Leinster W1

Leinster 137/7 | Balbriggan 138/3

Lara Maritz delivered a masterclass, taking 4/15 and then backing it up with a blistering 79* (6 fours, 5 sixes) to chase down the total.

Ella Marsh provided strong support with 29 (3 fours), while Erin Knight, Ella Marsh, and Anna Vezhakattu all picked up a wicket each in the first innings.

🔹 Men’s 1st XI vs Cork County – Match Abandoned

After travelling down to Cork, the match was unfortunately called off due to rain. A huge thanks to Cork County for their hospitality and warm welcome at the club bar.

🔹 Men’s 5th XI vs Kilkenny 4

Kilkenny 250 all out | Balbriggan 81 all out

It was a tough day for the 5s who were put into the field early. Euan Bannister picked up 3 wickets, while Bhavesh Vaity took 2. Aidan Abraham, Kaelin Knight, Jacob Philip, and Vikrant Verukhia each grabbed one wicket.

Back to training and regrouping — they’ll bounce back stronger!

🔹 Men’s 4th XI – Double Delight vs Malahide & Terenure

Avinash Anthony starred with 3/27 and followed it up with a brilliant 65 with the bat. He was supported by an unbeaten 64* from Qutubuddin Sheik and a rapid 36 from Karan Karan to chase down the target with ease.

🆚 Terenure 4

Terenure 127/7 | Balbriggan 132/0

It was one-way traffic in this one. Karan Karan smashed 77 from just 43 balls (3x4s, 8x6s) and Avinash Anthony finished on 44* (4x4s, 1×6). With the ball, Avinash took 2/20, and there were wickets for John Keeler, Wahleed Shahid, Fionn Bannister, and Hamza Anjun.

A superb week for the 4s – clinical with bat and ball and playing confident cricket.
