This week delivered history, drama, and dominance for Balbriggan Cricket Club — from a stunning Cup Final win for the Women’s 2s to a bowling masterclass by the 1st XI. Let’s dive in:
🏆 Women’s 2nd XI – SportsHub Division 4 Cup Champions!
Balbriggan W2 93/4 beat North Kildare W2 92/3 by 1 run
In a final that had everything, Balbriggan W2 emerged victorious in a low-scoring thriller at Terenure to lift the 2025 Division 4 Cup!
Batting first, Iseult McDonnell (27*), Erin Knight (21), and Zoe Harper (19*) helped post 93/4.
North Kildare’s chase was steady until a brilliant spell from Anna Vezhakattu (3/15) changed the game with two wickets in two balls. Erin Knight’s tight overs set up the finale before Anna bowled a nerve-shredding final over, defending 6 runs and conceding just 4!
Huge congratulations to the team on an amazing cup run, sealed with true grit and composure. 👏
🔹 Women’s 2nd XI vs North County W1
Balbriggan W2 73/3 beat North County W1 72/8 by 7 wickets
Another win for the cup champions, this time led by Erin Knight and Robyn Claxton with 2 wickets each. Marisa Curtis and Indie Harper put together a crucial 35-run stand to take the game home.
🔹 Women’s 2nd XI vs North Kildare (League)
Balbriggan W2 107 beat North Kildare W by 47 runs
A perfect warm-up before the cup final, Balbriggan W2 put in a strong team display.
⭐ Robyn Claxton led with the bat, scoring 37, while Mia Harper took 3 key wickets.
The rest of the wickets were shared around in a brilliant all-round effort that set the tone for Sunday’s dramatic cup victory.
🔹 Women’s 1st XI vs Merrion W1
Merrion 177/4 beat Balbriggan 100/8 by 77 runs
A tough top-of-the-table clash saw Merrion get the upper hand. Ella Marsh (24) and Madison Landsman (25) led with the bat. There was a wicket apiece for Ella, Erin, Lara, and Madison.
The women sit 3rd – a brilliant effort so far this season.
🔥 Men’s 1st XI vs The Hills 1
The Hills 19 all out | Balbriggan 20/2 – Brig won by 8 wickets
Matt Hollard delivered an outrageous 6/6 and Andy Darroch grabbed 3/0 as Balbriggan bowled out The Hills for just 19 in what can only be described as a once-in-a-generation performance.
The chase was handled in style — five boundaries, no singles, job done.
One of those games you’ll talk about for years. Incredible effort by the bowling unit!
🔹 Men’s 2nd XI vs Clontarf 2
Clontarf 185/4 beat Balbriggan 183 all out by 6 wickets
Abdul Samad made a strong return with 40, supported by Ghanim Dara (30). With the ball, there were wickets for Samad, Jordan Hollard, Bhavesh Lakhotia, and Ryan Keenan.
🔹 Men’s 5th XI vs Lucan 4
Lucan 133/5 beat Balbriggan 129 all out
Fionn Bannister top scored with 27, while Ollie Richardson claimed 2 wickets. Euan Bannister, Fionn, and Bhavesh Vaity took one each.
Special mention to Valliraja Muthukrishnan who took a sensational catch at short cover before having to leave the field injured. We wish him a speedy recovery!
