A busy weekend of cricket saw all six Balbriggan teams in action across the province, with standout performances and hard-fought contests across the board.
Men’s 1st XI
Victory at Malahide
After a slow start the 1s opened their winning account with a Leinster Senior Cup win over Malahide. Chasing 172, the Brigg chased it down in style, finishing 174/4. Chris De Freitas anchored the innings with a composed 47* while skipper Greg Ford chipped in with 43. Earlier, Sam Willemse (3/36) and Jordan Hollard (3/38 off 10) led the attack to bowl Malahide out for 172.
Men’s 2nd XI
Narrow Loss at Phoenix
Balbriggan 2s fell short in a competitive encounter against Phoenix 2, losing by 19 runs. Chasing 202, the side was bowled out for 182. Bhavesh Lakhotia top-scored with 41, supported by Emad Uddin’s 32. With the ball, Aadi Wankhade impressed again with 3/33, while Abdul Samad, Duane Harper and Zulfiqar Ali each picked up two wickets.
Men’s 3rd XI
Dominant Win Over Dundalk
A comprehensive win for the 3rds saw them bowl out Dundalk for 115 after posting 226. Nithin Thambi led the scoring with 68, ably supported by Ryan Keenan’s 36. In the bowling department, Aadi Wankhade starred with 3/28, while Punit Kapoor, Ryan Keenan, and Druhan Knight all took two apiece.
Men’s 4th XI
Thrilling Finish Against Terenure
A 2-wicket win for the 4s capped off a tight contest against Terenure. Druhan Knight impressed with 4/51, while Hamza, Karan, and John Keeler shared six wickets between them. With the bat, Karan’s explosive 39 (including 4 sixes) set the tone before Wahleed played a match-winning hand of 28.
Men’s 5th XI
Fighting Spirit in Kilkenny
The 5s showed plenty of grit on the road but came up short against Kilkenny 2. After being bowled out for 111, the hosts chased down the total for the loss of four wickets. A learning curve, but lots of positives in the performance.
Women’s 1st XI
Tough Outing Against Leinster
Thursday’s fixture saw the Women’s 1st XI go down to a strong Leinster side, bowled out for 50 chasing 138. The overseas player Ella Marsh showed promise with 22* and a wicket, while Lara Maritz was once again sharp with the ball, claiming 2/15 from her 4 overs.
